18th Annual Stockman's Auction

Welcome to this select offering. Each year, we work to bring together items that represent a broad range of artistic disciplines. Collector pieces that include the Foundation's Limited Edition Print Series, The Great American Cowboy, are always popular among our generous bidders.

Proceeds from the auction are used to help fund scholarship programs made available to students from the five-state region of North and South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming and Nebraska and who are seeking post-secondary education in agriculturally related career fields.

Once again the Black Hills Stock Show Foundation will present six $2,000 scholarships during the BHSS Stockman’s Banquet and Ball to very deserving high school seniors. We are proud to help these individuals with their dreams. The Ramkota Best Western will host this event as four deserving ag-dedicated individuals are honored by the community. The money raised during the auction held on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at the Banquet and Ball will help continue this scholarship program. We will auction off many beautiful and extraordinary donations that will grace any home or lodge. The discerning cowboy and cowgirl will be sure to find something to help them shine like a star.

1. Miniature Saddle Sculpture-created and donated by local artist Mavis Madison.  This 10” bronze sculpture of a c: 1919 Duhamel saddle made for Russ Madison replicating Buffalo Bill’s performance saddle is mounted on a cherry wood pedestal.
  2. Handmade Chinks donated by Travis Clark.   Excellent quality and they will be made to last for that hardworking cowboy or cowgirl!
  3. Turquoise Jewelry donated by Ralph Maynard and Maynard Buckles.  Ralph always brings something as beautiful as the Arizona sun.
  4. BHSSF Commemorative Rifle Scabbard donated by Bader Saddlery of Rapid City, SD.  A chance of a lifetime to own one of a kind.
  5. Women’s Tony Lama Centennial Boots donated by Tim Harwood, Tony Lama Representative.  These centennial boots are embellished with the brand’s exclusive anniversary logo. USA made of quality genuine leather + Certificate of Authenticity.

8. Sheridan Style Headstall w/Strlg Bit Hangers donated by Rick Lemmel. This beautifully tooled headstall is truly enhanced by the antique silver spoon bit hangers with hand cut and engraved silver buckles and rosettes.
  9. Silver Cuff Bracelet donated by Ralph Maynard Bracelets.  Beautiful silver to adorn your lady’s wrist and Valentine’s Day is just around the corner.
10. Handmade Saddle Bags with Holsters made and donated by Roy A. Grout/Grout Custom Leather.  Truly one-of-a-kind saddle bag set, especially for the mounted  parade participant, or for anyone who appreciates fine leather hand work.
11. Native American Knife in Shadow Box donated by Crazy Horse Memorial.  The item a Native American artifacts collector should NOT be without.
  12.  “Running Horses” Bronze created and donated by Black Hills artist Tony Chytka/One Horse Studio.  Western artistry at its best and a true enhancement for any home, lodge, office or den.
13. Ed Lawrence Silver Spurs donated by Marty Rypkema and made by the incomparable Ed Lawrence.   The wait to see this year’s spurs was truly not in vain.  Incredible!!! and will be of special interest to the Longhorn lover or breeder.
  14. 20X Extreme Showcase Rodeo Shirt-2011 donated by Sutton Rodeos.  The SD high school rodeo contestants will autograph the shirt.
15. BHSS Foundation Commemorative 2011 Buckle (Series 1:1) designed by BHSSF Directors in collaboration with C.J. Spencer and made by Maynard Buckles represents the unveiling of the new BHSSF logo.  This item as an annual issue of 1:1 will be offered annually at the BHSS Stockman’s Banquet and Ball Scholarship Fundraising Auction.
  16. Western Furniture donated by Freed’s Fine Furnishings/K.A. and Diane Alberts.  Get something comfortable for those long winter nights.

19. 2011 BHSSF Commemorative Silver Bit donated by Flat Creek Saddlery, Jackson, Wyoming.  The silver work on this bit must be seen to be believed!  One of the best ever offered!

  21. “Conceal and Carry” Purse donated by K–J Leather Co., Newell, SD.  One-of-a-kind, hair-on cowhide “conceal and carry” purse for the gal who wants to pack heat.

  24. Great American Cowboy Series Original Oil Painting by Mick Harrison.  “Pure Cowgirl” depicts the great South Dakota cowgirl, Mattie (Goff) Newcomb who, as a young woman, achieved considerable acclaim in the 1920’s as a trick rider.  She was billed as the “World’s Fastest Trick Rider”.  This is the second year the artwork was done in association with the Casey Tibbs Foundation.  Framing was done by Perfect Hanging Gallery.
  25. Signed Print #1 “Pure Cowgirl” by Mick Harrison.  This is your opportunity to own the Number 1 Print of this Harrison painting being offered by the BHSS Foundation.
